Lower and Upper Nursery

Welcome to Lower and Upper Nursery of Ashoka College

Ashoka College Nursery, situated in Horana within the Kalutara district, is renowned for its exceptional childcare services. Our Nursery program consists of two sections – Lower and Upper – dedicated to the education and care of children aged 3 to 5 years. This developmental stage is of utmost importance, and our paramount vision and mission revolve around providing a comprehensive educational environment for our young learners. Our facilities offer a bright, nurturing, and welcoming ambiance, focusing on tailored learning experiences for each child.
Our main goal is to create a supportive and enriching educational environment for our young students. We strive to offer a well-rounded combination of academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and personal growth opportunities. By prioritizing a well-rounded education, we aim to encourage critical thinking, creativity, and a passion for learning in our students. Our educational approach is built on addressing all aspects of a child’s development, including emotional, physical, social, and cognitive growth.
We have developed a comprehensive curriculum with the aim of providing students with a varied array of essential subjects for their daily lives. The medium of instruction utilized is English.

Outdoor Learning.
Outdoor learning holds significant importance in early childhood education. ACH is committed to providing comprehensive outdoor learning opportunities aimed at fostering personal, social, and emotional skills in all children. Our program is designed to stimulate creativity and breathe life into the curriculum.
Our dedicated educators meticulously devise and execute outdoor educational sessions, offering children a diverse range of immersive experiences across the curriculum. These experiences encompass narrative recitation, physical fitness activities, dramatic enactments, environmental exploration, and practical tasks designed to augment daily responsibilities. Outdoor learning facilitates the natural inclination for knowledge acquisition inherent in every child, providing avenues for independent decision-making, self-guided learning, and calculated risk-taking, ultimately fostering the cultivation of positive attitudes and conduct.

Learning through Play
Play-based learning is an educational approach characterized by child-led and open-ended activities. It facilitates the development of children’s social skills, intrinsic motivation to learn, as well as language and numeracy competencies, all within the context of play and exploration of their immediate environment. Our proficient Early Years educators curate the classroom environment meticulously, aiming to instill qualities of independence, confidence, and academic achievement, thus fostering a sustained passion for learning and achieving success throughout their lives.

Indoor Learning

Within the ACH, we cultivate a secure, harmonious, and nurturing environment that upholds the highest standards of enjoyable learning and teaching. It is a welcoming and amicable space where children are prompted to engage their senses in exploration. This environment encourages interactive learning, recreational activities, and collaborative knowledge acquisition. Moreover, it allows children to find solace when necessary. It also affords them the opportunity to engage in introspection, fostering an understanding of its inherent value.
Furthermore, students are provided with an extensive range of subject areas to enhance their cognitive abilities, encompassing speaking, writing, reading, problem-solving, word-building, listening, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
In addition to our academic offerings, we provide diverse extracurricular activities, encompassing sports, art, music, and drama, to ensure that our students have abundant opportunities to pursue their interests and cultivate new skills. Moreover, we strongly emphasize our students’ social and emotional well-being, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment conducive to developing confidence and resilience.

Sri Lanka is a nation characterized by its multi-lingual and multi-religious composition, where respect for all religions is upheld without discrimination. It is incumbent upon educational institutions and educators to instill in students an understanding of the core tenets of each religion. In line with this vision, the staff at ACH are dedicated to arranging diverse cultural activities aimed at fostering an appreciation for traditions among students. These activities include the participation in Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations, the Vesak festival, events commemorating the Poson Poya Day, the Thai Pongal Festival, the Deepavali Festival, the Ramazan festival, and Christmas celebrations. Such initiatives serve to cultivate a heightened enthusiasm among students for religious observances and associated traditions.
Furthermore, at the ACH, we offer our young students the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of society through a range of activities. These activities encompass vegetable and fruit fairs, role-playing centered on the theme of family, instruction on road safety regulations, culinary exploration, and participation in the maintenance of the school garden adjacent to their classroom.
ACH hosts several major events to showcase the aesthetic talents of our students, including the annual concert, art and crafts exhibition, and kids’ flower procession.
